Hi,
I'm thinking of getting the EWS64 (probably XL) and would appreciate some advice. I would like to use the card for home music recording (both audio hd-recording including vocals and maybe guitar and MIDI) with cubase VST.
I cannot see any other card in that price range that gives me as many options (extensible RAM, digital output, onboard effects). A few years ago I played around with the AWE32 but got sick of it because it was very hard to find good soundbanks on the internet. how about the availability of affordable yet powerful soundbanks for the EWS? I'm not planning on spending lots of time creating my own samples. what I would like to do is put 64 meg of RAM in the card and just use available drumkits, synths etc. even if I have to spend some money (how much are good sounds for the EWS?).
Is the EWS 64 the right card for me then? what are the competitors that fulfill my criteria?
thanks,
robert

Hi,
You might want to read the replies under the posting 'Worth buying?". About the samples: go to our Sample CD guide (via EWSoundZine) on www.ews64.com

I had read the thread "worth buying" and your sample CD guide and it did help me a lot. what I was trying to provoke were reactions more specific to my requirements like "if you want to use VST then EWS is not the right card" or "for vocal recording you should look at xxx because EWS is just no good". the impression I have from browsing through websites and FAQs is that EWS is exactly what I'm looking for (card good enough to compose music and record reasonable quality demos for a band with synth, guitar and vocals without having to spend a fortune). to give you some impression of my quality requirements, I was quite satisfied with my AWE32 in terms of sound quality so I'm not really a fanatic. just looking for some confirmation ;-). thanks.
